Consumer Protection in Illinois Shines
Illinois Shines places consumer protection at the center of the Program’s day-to-day operations and requirements. To participate in Illinois Shines, solar companies must meet rigorous consumer protection standards and comply with detailed Program requirements. These safeguards help protect customers as they navigate their solar journey.
As part of this commitment to protecting consumers, the IPA upholds its consumer protection requirements with the utmost dedication and care. The Agency takes disciplinary actions against solar companies found to have violated consumer protection requirements, up to and including suspension from the Program. This oversight helps make sure that participating entities act responsibly and that customers feel confident engaging with the solar companies vetted through the Program.
Consumer education and transparency are also key pillars of Illinois Shines. The Program prioritizes educating consumers about the decision to go solar by providing resources, including standardized Disclosure Forms, brochures, and fact sheets, that help protect them against misleading and problematic business practices.
